Tips for Keeping Your Towels Soft and Fluffy

Fluffy personalised bath towels

There’s nothing quite like the feel of a brand-new towel that feels soft and fresh against your skin. But as time passes and you wash it repeatedly, you may realise that the fluffy towel you once adored now looks stiff and feels rough. The good news is that you can keep the soft feel of your towels for longer by paying attention to the way you wash and dry them.

Temperature Matters

The washing temperature is one of the essential things to consider when caring for your towels. Whether you want to preserve
the feel of your personalised bath towels or that of your face cloths, the optimum temperature is 40 degrees Celsius. While many believe that washing towels at 30 degrees is a good choice because it protects the environment and lowers the electricity bill, the reality is that towels carry a heavier bacterial load than your clothes, so they require a washing temperature over 30 degrees. Moreover, experts recommend using a biological detergent for washing towels, as it contains enzymes that can break down sweat, and these detergents do not work well at low temperatures.

Prepare the Towels for Washing Correctly

In order to make sure your bath towels don’t lose their plushness, give them a good shake before loading them into the washing machine. The detergent sinks easier inside the fibres if they are slightly open. Next, try to separate your towels according to their colour and use a detergent that contains optical brightening agents for your white towels, as they do a good job at boosting their vibrancy.

When it comes to fabric conditioner, it is a misconception to think that more is better. Even though fabric conditioner is essential for enhancing the softness and smell of the towels, using too much will eventually result in the towels losing their absorbency. To prevent this, only use the amount of conditioner recommended by the producer on the bottle. Also, remember not to stuff the machine so that the towels have enough space to rotate.

Pay Attention to Drying

As towels are something that you need to wash frequently, you may feel tempted to throw them into the tumble dryer on a high temperature for quick results. However, keep in mind that drying them for too long or on a temperature that is too hot in a tumble dryer will cause the towels to become stiffer and get a dull appearance.

If possible, try drying all towels at least partially out in the fresh air. You can finish the drying process in the drier to fluff them up a bit. Never place the towels on a radiator to dry, as this will give them a sandpaper-like feel.

As you can see, caring for your towels is not difficult, and all you need to do is follow a couple of simple steps to make sure they remain in great condition even after multiple washes.
